about
I set out to make a parody of a pop song that was also a pop song, describing all of the tricks that pop songs use in order to make them so catchy. The song ended up more pop than parody in the end, but I'm still damn pleased with it.
lyrics
Spoken
Mr. Room-wide.
I'm gonna teach you how to make a pop song today
We got started with that 4 on the floor,
Now we bring that bass groove in
Layer some synth on top
Let's add some sizzle to those drums
With some light keys to finish things off
Break it down now
V1
gonna hijack your mind,
with words you already know
Simple things you learned in grade school
First that Prechorus tho
PreChorus
I like to use the vocoder cuz I cannot sing
I like to talk like a robot cuz I cannot sing
I'm working hard with vocoder cuz I cannot sing
Don't see me live; no vocoder cuz I cannot sing
Chorus
1 2 3, see, counting so easy
ichi ni san, shi now I'll teach you Japanese
uno dos tres, hey, then a Pitbull catch phrase ("vale")
Counting's so EZ, now let's say days of the week
Monday Tuesday, any way you use day
Wednesday, Thursday, make a happy hour play
Friday, Saturday, shots of Bacard(ay)
Sunday, recover(ay), now it's time for brunch ok
(echoes now it's time for brunch ok)
((echoes now it's time for brunch ok))
V2
Delay is important,
it brings things down after the high point.
Now we build it back up with the parts you already know.
First that prechorus tho
PreChorus
I use the vocoder cuz I cannot sing
I like to talk like a robot cuz I cannot sing
I work hard with vocoder cuz I cannot sing
Don't see me live no vocoder cuz I cannot sing
Chorus
1 2 3, see, counting so easy
ichi, ni, san, shi, now I'll teach you Japanese
uno dos tres, hey, then a Pitbull catch phrase ("vale")
Counting's so EZ, now let's say days of the week
Monday Tuesday, any way you use day
Wednesday, Thursday, make a happy hour play
Friday, Saturday, shots of Bacard(ay)
Sunday, recoveray, now it's time for brunch ok
(echoes now it's time for brunch ok)
((echoes now it's time for brunch ok))
Bridge
Build the swell here to the top
gets your anticipation up
it makes you feel good in your brain
with a shot of dopamine
(cut music)
(*during music* Radio voice, British: This is the most crucial element here, I believe kids call it, "the drop")
Drop
(instrumental)
Rap
This is the mandatory rap verse
Gonna make you clap verse
Gonna need a map verse
I don't give a crap verse
This section means nothing at all for the song
It's jammed in the middle like a wedgie from a thong
I get long in the tooth while I figure it out
Cuz I've only got doubt, what is this even about?
I'm already done, when I'd just begun
Barely got warmed up and now it's time to run
But please don't think less of me.
Was this all really necessary?
V3
Loosely connected rap is a critical part of the song
Don't question my methods; I will cut your TV time
First that Prechorus tho
PreChorus
I use the vocoder cuz I cannot sing
I like to talk like a robot cuz I cannot sing
I work hard with vocoder cuz I cannot sing
Don't see me live; no vocoder cuz I cannot sing
Chorus
1 2 3, see, counting so easy
ichi, ni, san, shi now I'll teach you Japanese
uno dos tres, hey, then a Pitbull catch phrase "vale"
Counting's easy, now let's say days of the week
Monday Tuesday, any way you use day
Wednesday, Thursday, make a happy hour play
Friday, Saturday, doing shots of Bacard(ay)
Sunday, recover(ay), now it's time for brunch ok
